Definition and Introduction:

Human resource management is a complete study of human behaviour and their responses on different situations. It makes it easy for the management to retain their employees and build up a good relationship with them.

We can formally define human resource management as follows:

“Human resource management is planning, organizing, leading, controlling, maintenance, separation of resources to the end of the individual, organizational and social objectives.”

This is a brief and quite easy definition of HRM, and it can help you better understand the concept of Human resource management.


Basic Functions of human resource management:




Now, let us discuss the whole idea of human resource management in detail under the light of these points.

1.   Planning:

The first step in human resource management is planning. Or you can say that the core building of HRM is dependent on this basic step.

The organizations start their process by making a complete plan of their job by the help of a job scope and job description. Then they convey the human resource management about their needs and requirements. Here comes the role of HRM to plan the complete criteria of arranging the workforce whether through existing workers or by hiring the new workforce.

So, basically here the HR department make a complete action plan regarding hiring and arranging the workers for the specific project.

 

2. Organizing:

After completing an action plan next step is organizing. Here comes a practical execution of the plan regarding the arrangements of the workforce. The HR department will now conduct interviews and start gathering the documents of the existing workers for further processing like ID processing, safety orientations and other related tasks.

If new employees to be hired, then HR department will advertise the openings and then after screening the CVs from candidates they will call the most suitable candidate and after proper interview they will hire the best match. This is the most crucial step in the process.

 

3.   Leading:

 Next step is leading as well as directing the team of the people in the right direction. The HR department will next arrange the orientation and training session for all the newly hired workers so that they don’t face problem at the time of the execution of the process.

 All the personal development and organizational objectives are covered by these trainings and the core purpose of these trainings is to familiarize and make them feel comfortable in the environment.

 

4. Controlling:

Now the execution of the project starts and employees are being sent to their respective departments. HR try to control the expenses incurred in the project. The complete data related to the project and operation is gathered and processed according to the HR policies.

The data analysis helps in making the payroll including the working hours as well as the overtime. Overtime is calculated individually based on the basic salary of the employee. Here HR will force the operations team to cutdown on expenses.

These four are the main steps involved in HRM but these are not the only steps their is much more to it, which are as follows:

 

5.   Compensation:

This is one of the most important part or a step in human resource management. This includes the monetary compensation to all the employees as per their contract and total time of duty that the did. Compensation is a vast concept that includes basic salary, allowance, overtimes and also any type of appraisal or bonuses to be given.

All this task is done by the respective team member of the HR department. As HR is responsible to cut down the extra expenses that is why they offer the minimum pay to the candidate so that after bargaining they can reach the reasonable point.


6.  Individual, organizational        and social objectives:

HRM is responsible to fulfil the objectives related to the employees, organization in the way to build a trustful relationship between the two. This helps to create an amazing environment that is feasible for all of the employees and it helps to build goodwill in the market.
